Interview: This Century

This Century is a pop/rock band from Pheonix, Arizona. It consists of vocalist Joel Kanitz (@ThisCenturyJoel), guitarist Sean Silverman (@ThisCenturySean), bassist Alex Silverman (@ThisCenturyAlex), and drummer Ryan Gose (@ThisCenturyRyan). We  had a chance to catch up with Sean via email before the band heads out for their first European tour this fall. You can read the full interview here:

How did This Century originally form?

Ryan and I started playing together after breaking off from a previous project.  Soon after my brother, Alex, was asked to join on bass.  Alex met Joel at the performing arts high school that they both attended. From there it all came together.

What are some of your favorite things to do while on the road?

We’re big fans of finding the best Pho Restaurants that America and beyond have to offer.

You guys are getting ready to go on your first European tour in the Fall. What are you most excited about?

Just the idea of actually seeing these places for the first time really blows our minds…not to mention that many of our fans in these places have waited years upon years for us to show up, that in itself is exciting.

You recently played your first overseas show in Manila. How was that different from shows that you’ve played in America?

The energy was through the roof.  We couldn’t really pinpoint one specific moment.  The whole concert experience was just incredibly overwhelming in the best way possible.

If you could only perform one of your songs for the rest of your career, what song would you choose, and why?

I’d be fine playing Sound of Fire for a long time.  That song always seems to feel new and exciting every night.  We’ve also arranged it a million different ways at this point so that we never get tired of playing it.

What made you decide to release Bleach Blonde as an independent single rather than a single off of an album?

It felt like the right song for summer and something different than what we had always done.  Sometimes you just want to explore different vibes and sounds than you’re used to doing. Bleach Blonde just felt like the perfect song for the job.

Can we be expecting any more singles or a new album in the near future?

Absolutely! We have a ton of songs written, about a dozen or so fully recorded, but we still have a few more things to get out before we feel like the record is ready to go…really close though.

Where can we find out more about the band?

You can go to www.thiscenturyband.comwww.facebook.com/thiscenturyband or @thiscentury on twitter

Bonus question for Joel: If you had a pet shark, and what would you name it?
