Lawrence hit the stage for the final show on the American leg of their Family Business Tour, blending their soulful sound with playful 80s-style “training videos” and white-collar-themed humor. Fans joined in on the theme, donning plaid skirts, Mary Janes and large-framed glasses, creating an audience that looked like an office party ready for a night of music and fun.
Founders Clyde and Gracie Lawrence are a New York City-born duo who have been making music together since childhood. Clyde, a talented pianist and songwriter who got his start composing for films at the young age of five, co-leads the band with his versatile keyboard skills and vocal talent. His sister Gracie, an equally impressive singer and actress, brings charisma and a powerhouse voice to the mix. Together, they’ve collected friends from childhood and college to build Lawrence into an eight-piece pop-soul band known for their genre-blending sound.
Backed by a powerful six-piece band, the stage setup leaned into the “business” theme with a mock office space decked out with file cabinets, desk plants, trash bins, and staplers. Lawrence kept the audience on their toes with unexpected moments all night, including a unique experience where select VIP fans, known as the "sales department," got the chance to nominate songs from the band’s older albums for the night’s set. The crowd then voted on these choices, resulting in a spontaneous performance of “Freckles”—which Gracie jokingly dubbed the band's “girliest song.”
A special moment in the show came during a training video shown to introduce the “leadership” at the business. A different member is chosen each night of the tour, and for the Boston date, Jonny Koh, guitarist and background vocalist for the band, was introduced. Being the only member of the band hailing from Massachusetts, he received a warm welcome from the hometown crowd.
Later in the show, the band shared another "training video,” this time teaching the “new hires” what to do if something goes wrong while on the road. Complete with the training video background music we all know and love, the video featured an unusual tour hack: using a keyboard stand as a wrench. The informational video included a real-life clip of the band using a keyboard stand to change a tire at 1 a.m. in the rain—all to make it to their next gig.
At one point, Gracie playfully addressed the crowd with her wit, possibly alluding to negative comments made about their latest hit: “I’ve been told I’m an aggressive singer. What??? And that’s a critique, apparently. My response?” After a short pause, she concluded, “Correct.” Trust me, she never let the audience forget it.
As the show drew to a close, Lawrence ended the night with their viral hit, “Watcha Want,” inviting their crew and family members on stage to join them. It was a joyful, energetic finale that brought the entire tour family together, creating a memorable last hurrah for the American leg of the tour.
Between the humor, the raw musical talent, and the connection with fans, Lawrence wrapped up this tour leg with a perfect blend of heart, puns, and just enough unpredictability to keep everyone wanting more.
Although they've finished in The US, Lawrence is back on tour in the new year, hitting up cities across Australia and Europe. You can view dates below, and purchase tickets on their website.
